Mount Kilimanjaro
Climbing Kilimanjaro on the 8 day Lemosho Route was the most amazing thing our family has ever done! And we have travelled all over the world! We are a family of 4. My husband and I are both 41, and we have a 13 year old daughter and 15 year old son. We booked this trip a few weeks before Christmas holiday with Uprise Africa Explorer. All of the coordinating took place with Rachel who was in Ireland. She helped book our trip, gave us all the information we needed such as vaccinations, packing list, and trip details. We flew from Switzerland to Kilimanjaro Airport in Moshi. From there our transportation was waiting for us and we went to the hotel. That is where we met our guides, Robert and Deus and they gave us a briefing for what would be going on for the rest of our trip along with a health check. Health checks were Oxygen levels and heart rate tests as well as questions each day about how we felt. We got health checks every morning of our trek.
The next day we packed up and got picked up early in the morning. From there we met up with the rest of our crew (we had 17 people total that went up the moutnain with us.). Everyone was incredible. We couldn't believe how strong the porters are, carrying their own gear along with all the rest of the gear our family had and all the tents and supplies. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, enjoyable to be with, and very mountain smart. We always felt completely safe and in good hands with them.
We went on the 8 day Lemosho route and loved every day of our climb. We always saw beautiful sights in all directions every single minute of our days. Our campsites were always set up and waiting for us when we ended our days hike and we always had 3 hot meals a day. Which was incredible being on a mountain! The food was absolutely incredible, our whole family loved everything Reggie (our chef) prepared for us. Our chef was amazing as well as the rest of the crew. We slept two people to a tent. We rented sleeping bags from Uprise Africa Explorer, and they were incredibly warm Mountain Hardware bags. Then we had a dining tent, the kitchen tent, porters tent, and our own bathroom tent. I would highly recommend spending the extra money for your own private toilet tent, it's totally worth it, I promise!! Our guides led us to the summit, and we had the most incredible views and feelings of accomplishment. Our teenagers never complained even when we all felt altitude sickness to some degree. We all made it thanks to our awesome guides and crew! I would highly recommend Uprise Africa Explorer for your Kilimanjaro climbing trip, they are very professional, knowledgeable and you should definitely request Deus and Robert as your guides!! Thank you Uprise Africa Explorer for making our big dream of Kilimanjaro a reality!!!
