- Visit Taj Mahal, one of the most popular landmarks in the world
- Explore heritage sites like Agra Fort and Akbar's Tomb
Basking in the presence of the glorified tomb that is Taj, the city of Agra seems to have got washed with sheer resplendent white. Taj Mahal, the irrevocable symbol of undying love, ironically is a tomb below which lie the mortal remains of Mughal emperors Shah Jahan and his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
One of the most talked-about wonders of the world, Taj Mahal happens to be the ultimate love epitaph that a man could have scripted for his ladylove. So what if the man in question happened to be the infallible emperor of the medieval era?
Love, they say, makes no demarcation between the poor and the rich!
Taj aside, Agra is also the host to vintage bazaars and a few other heritage sites scattered here and there. The crimson Agra Fort offers another shade to the city’s kaleidoscope while the melancholic Yamuna flows by pensively.
Refer to the itinerary to find out what you will be doing on this 2 day trip.
Your memorable voyage shall trigger off at 7 am when your plane from the Mumbai airport pushes off the grounds. A two-hour stint with the clouds and you will safely reach Delhi at around 9.
At Delhi Airport, we expect a gleeful session of Hi’s and hello’s following which you will be on route to Agra via a 3.5-hour drive. As we whisk you away to the land of eternal love, you shall be offered the option of dropping by the famed hamlet of Sikandra, best known for Akbar’s Tomb.
Leafing through the city’s vignettes, art and architecture, you will reach your hotel possibly in a bedazzled state.
After you check in and once you are done with relaxation and refreshment, you can cool your heels at Agra Fort, the 16th century fort built by Akbar the Great. The massive fort will leave you in a trance as you walk through all its palaces and chambers including Jahangir Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Am, Macchhi Bhawan, Sheesh Mahal and Musamman Burj. The fort also teases you with a sneak peek of the Taj, the showpiece of Agra and the marquee attraction of India.
Agra Fort’s architectural grandeur, heart-wrenching history and peerless beauty will have you in their grip. And by the time you recover from the hypnotism, it will be curtains for the day.
Your warm bed inside the hotel shall await you as Day 1 will come to an end.
After a spellbinding Day 1, the second day will be marked by revelations, ecstasies and discoveries. It is on Day 2 that you will discover the enslaving charms of Mughal history; it is on Day 2 that you will come face-to-face with the greatest love monument ever built, and it is on Day 2 that you will figure out the exquisite beauty of Taj at the crack of the dawn.
There’s no time more opportune than the daybreak to witness the Taj for the first time. Its refreshing early-morning look, complete with the playful colors of the sunlight, shall floor you. A case of love at first sight!
Rummaging through books of history or a rant by a local guide will give you insights into the making of the Taj (it was built over 22 years between 1631 and 1653).
The rendezvous with Taj will be followed by a breakfast back at the hotel. Thereafter, you can freshen up and start your drive back to Delhi.
In case you wish to hang around a bit, you are free to hop over to the famous markets, savoring the final sights and sounds of this enigmatic town and also running your errant hand through marble-made mementos, rugs and brass work items.
Another 3.5-hour road journey and you will be back amidst the chaos and cacophonies of Delhi. You shall be dropped at the Delhi Airport from where you can catch your plane back to Mumbai and back to normalcy. The end surely couldn’t have been any more agonizing, yet fulfilling.
