  • Darjeeling and Sikkim – two charming hillside cities
  • Stand at the top of Goechala (5002 meters) with eye-popping mountain views
  • Enjoy a range of sceneries throughout the trek
  • Up-close views of Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world
Experience the diverse landscapes of Sikkim on our Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek! From the forested hills of Yuksom to the alpine meadows of Tshokha, and finally to the Goechala Pass (4940 meters), where you are confronted with a jaw-dropping view of Kanchenjunga’s (8586 meters) south face. In all directions, sheer rocky mountains surround you. You will gain a true sense of perspective as you stand in awe in front of these monumental peaks.

Not only does this package take you to the middle of the mountains, but it also introduces you to the rich cultural heritage of Darjeeling. Start off with a full tour of the hill station city. Explore the Tibetan Self Help Center, along with the Padam Naidu Zoological Park and Dali Monastery, while trying some of Darjeeling’s world famous tea in between stops!

After a culturally and spiritually fulfilling tour, we begin our mountain adventure. Trek up through lush semi-tropical forests, crossing crystal-clear streams and rivers along the ascent. Listen to the peaceful flowing waterfall just below Prek Chu. Continue moving through the highlands from Tshoka to Dzongri, taking an exploration/acclimatization day. You’ll be amazed by the rugged terrain surrounding these points.

From Dzongri, keep climbing through Pandim’s shadow before ascending even further to Goechala (5002 meters/16,410 feet). Look below at the glaciated lake, with snow and ice covering the mountain ridges around it. Then look up and out and at Kanchenjunga (8586m), Talung (7349m), Kabru (7353m), and a dozen other peaks. You will never forget the moment of being at the top of Goechala Pass.

Begin the descend, first through the high alpine landscape and then again through marvellous lowland terrain. Each day on the Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek is unique from the day before and the following day. You will be constantly surprised by the view that awaits behind each corner. The trek ends where it began, in Yuksam. Our vehicle awaits to take you to Gangtok and for a lovely sightseeing tour of Sikkim’s capital and largest city.

There is something truly special about the Himalayas. It does not take long after trekking around and through them to realize this. We would love to be a part of this exploration with you. Join us on this once in a lifetime Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek!

It is possible to do the Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek throughout the year. The best times, though, are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). In the springtime, the colorful flowers are blooming. During the fall, the skies are usually clearer. Ashmita Trek and Tours arranges the trek with full management, including transportation, meals, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions!

Amazing adventure Sikkim Goechala Trek with lovely people!

“We choose Ashmita Trek & Tours like after reading a lot of good reviews and we are so glad we did. my girlfriend and I did the Sikkim Goecha - la pass Trek in late August 2017 and had a wonderful time. We go a all full package including hotel, transportation, guide, porter, sherpa all necessary permits. Before we arrived in Sikkim, Subash the owner of company was very responsive via email and helped us arrange all the details for a reasonable price.
(About Our Guide) they took care of everything really good. And super friendly and good at finding the right balance between letting us walking alone and sharing his information about the area. and our highlight of teams when we reached the higher elevations near the goecha la pass, our Sherpa guide provided that little extra encouragement (and concern for our safety) that allowed us to make it through.
(About Goecha la trek) we entered the national park on day one from yuksoom base camp through thick forest and were treated to rich foliage, rhododendron forests, number of waterfalls, wire bridges on rivers and green meadows above treeline. of course, after 3 days we reach Dzongri bae camp of Kanchanzonza the altitude at 4,200mt with beautiful views of Mt. Pandim and the great Khangchenzonga.
we would gladly recommend Ashmita Trek and Tours and there Sherpa teams to anyone planning a adventure Trek in Sikkim Himalayas !”

Have breakfast and leave the hotel at 9:00am for the drive to Yuksam. Six hours might seem like a long drive, but the drag of driving is offset by the ever-changing scenery along the way. We head down to Singtam, and then uphill towards the Temi Tea Gardens before stopping in Rabongla for lunch. Rabongla is a small town below Maenam Hill. Have your lunch in the presence of the astonishing Himalayas. Then drive into the valley basin of the Rangeet River, and then back up to Yuksam, where we begin the trek the following day. Overnight in hotel.

Today marks the beginning of our Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek. Walk gently uphill along the Rathong river gorge, through a lively jungle of magnolia, rhododendron, fern, and several varieties of orchids. Listen to the chirping birds, occasional monkey, and the sound of the wind in the trails – the ultimate feeling of peace. After ascending a bit more, reach Tshoka, a Tibetan refugee settlement. Overnight in tent camp.

Take a steep climb after leaving Tshoka through vibrant rhododendron forests. The trail is very well-maintained. Take a rest in Phedang, and continue, progressing past the 4,000-meter mark. The lush vegetation gets sparser throughout the day. We set up our camp in Dzongri in the afternoon and, if you have the energy, we continue climbing briefly up to a meadow with crisp views of Koktang, Rathong, Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Simvo, and Pandim. This quick hike helps our bodies prepare for the following days. Overnight in tent camp.

Camping
Dzongri is a perfect place to spend an extra day acclimatizing. There are smaller peaks within walking distance of our campsite, so we can climb those to help our bodies acclimatize. We keep going high throughout the following days, so we want to be as prepared as possible for that. If you have interest in making the hikes for the sunrise and/or sunset views, this is the best time to do it! Overnight in tent camp.

5-6 hours Camping
Take breakfast and begin another day of ascending through gorgeous landscapes. Reach a ridge at about 4,115 meters (13,500 feet) for unreal views of Kanchenjunga and Pandim while experiencing the charming chhortens and prayer flags – signs of Tibetan Buddhism. Take some photographs and descend towards Pandim and even further through rhododendron forests to the Prek Chu River at 3749 meters. Take lunch in the peace and quiet and take a deep breath. Enjoy the splendid scenery of the Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goechala Trek. After lunch, cross a river and slowly ascend for an hour and a half through pine trees to a nice camping spot. Above us lies the majestic, unclimbed Pandim peak. Overnight in tent camp.

It’s an easy hike today, though the high altitude wear on us a little bit. We must not overdo ourselves, as tomorrow will be the most difficult (but rewarding) day of our trek. Walk alongside the Prek Chu River. Soon, we reach the sacred Samiti Lake, an emerald-green body of water nestled amidst the brightly colored, wind-town prayer flags. Overnight in tent camp.

Today is the big day! To maximize the changes of good weather, we leave early in the morning. Besides, the views are best during this time. Ascend the hill behind the lake and then traverse the glacial moraine. Above Samiti Lake, the area that we are trekking on, is called the Zemathang Plateau. Hike across the plateau under the shadow of Pandim, and climb up to a height of 15,700 feet. Look down at a majestic snowy and icy glaciated lake. From here, it’s an hour to the Goechala Pass. Traverse the well-trodden path to the pass, which is decorated with bright-colored prayer flags. Sit in awe at the view of the world’s highest mountain range, and glacial valleys in the distance. Descend all the way to Kochrung, today’s destination. Overnight in tent camp.

Get up in the early morning and check out the sunrise view from a ridge behind our campsite. Here are awesome views of Kanchenjunga and behind us is the Goechala Pass. Departing our campsite, we take a fresh route back towards the trailhead. Hike down to the Prek Chu and weave around the jungle to arrive to Phedang. Stop for a lunch of snack before steeply descending to Tshoka. It’s a long day so take it easy in the evening. Overnight in tent camp.

Make the final day of the trek a memorable one! Be present as you hike through the lush landscape. It’s the same route as we took on the first day of the trek, but after many days, it seems fresh. Enjoy any scenery you missed on the first time around. In Yuksam, we check into our hotel and rest or explore the rest of the day. Overnight in hotel.
