Central America Tours and Trips 2024/2025

Taking a trip to Central America is one of the most interesting travelling experiences one can have. The region acts as a land bridge between Mexico and South America and is surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic oceans on either side. The seven different countries that makeup Central America — Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua — offer tropical paradise that is waiting to be rediscovered again and again.

“I went with this tour company and their guide Manu to Costa Rica last month. It was an amazing trip, we saw so many animals; sloths, monkeys, snakes, tarantulas, had many great nights out, beach days, and crazy adventures like rafting and zip lining. Manu is so knowledgeable and sooo fun! I would go again anytime!”

“We started off San Jose and explored the culture. Food was amazing. Next we headed out to Pacuera River to whitewater raft for two days. Got to stay in the rainforest with huts and the guides/volunteers were Amazing. So attentive, knowledgeable and kind. They kept us well fed. Our next trip took us to LA Fortuna....long drive but worth it. The hanging bridges, waterfall, and hot springs all were very enjoyable. We were lucky enough to see spider monkeys and other native wildlife ssooo cool! We then went to Quepas near Manuel Antonio to enjoy the Pacific beach. Beautiful as well. The water is very warm. Other wildlife we saw were macaws, iguanas, chipocun monkeys. Last destination back to San Jose. Enjoyed walking around the market streets. Our drivers, guides, and meals were all great.”

“I loved this trip! Our tour leader Vicky was the best, very knowledgeable but also fun and joined even most optional activities. It's a very active trip with loads of possibilities to spot the famous Costa Rican wildlife.”

Central America - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

There are very few areas on the planet that have such a broad range of biodiversity available including rainforests, mountain ranges with steamy volcanoes, and some of the best surfing beaches to catch a wave. With all this in mind, planning a tour to Central America might not be the easiest thing to do! However, we’ve narrowed down the best highlights, so you know where to focus your time and attention.

Tour Highlights

  • If you’re headed to Central America seeing the different Mayan pyramids, cave dwellings, and different carvings on mountains and walls make some really great Instagrammable moments. The different Mayan ruins run all across Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador and make for very affordable destinations.
  • There are many different active and dormant volcanoes spread across Central American. Some of the most famous include the current active Pacaya volcano in Guatemala which regularly still spews smoke. Poas in Costa Rica is also famous among backpackers with its mile-long crater lake as well as many smaller geothermal lakes and springs.
  • For just over 100 years now the Panama Canal has connected the middle of the Americas with a canal spreading over five miles of land using three different locks including the Miguel Pedro and Miraflores Locks on the Pacific side and the Gatun Locks on the Atlantic gulf side. We suggest visiting the Miraflores Locks to see them in action.

Travel Tips

  • Typically December to April is the dry season, so we suggest going during that time so you don’t get rained out on all your activities.
  • While there is quite a bit of internal conflict between the countries as their founding and history are all unique and different, each country is very receptive to tourists and it’s considered a perfect region to go backpacking through.
  • While malaria is said to be a risk in Central America, it is a very low risk and mostly found in a small region within Costa Rica. It is advised to ensure you check each local region’s suggested vaccines at least 8 weeks prior to visiting.
