The first attempt to build a pyramid started in 2700 B.C. when Imhotep, the first architect ever mentioned in history, built the Step Pyramid in Saqqara for his King Zoser. The Step Pyramid is the oldest complete building made of stone.
Saqqara is a huge cemetery of ancient Egyptians, where you will explore the causeway of King Unas (2230 B.C.) with its reliefs and paintings, the excellently preserved tomb of the high priest Kagemni (2300 B.C.) and the interior of the pyramid of Teti that has the Pyramid Texts on its walls. The Pyramid Texts are the oldest religious texts in history.
