Bulgaria Tour Reviews

Fantastic trip!
5 - Excellent
  • Tom Sutton
“We went on this tour by recommendation of friends who had previously visited Bulgaria and this same tour with this local travel specialist. Having been already on a few such hikes in the Alps and the Pyrenees we wanted to experience something different. And we got it! Stunning mountains, combined with perfect organization, very good accommodations and local food. Very good physical condition is a must if you wish to fully enjoy the hikes. But scenery has been rewarding throughout. We were lucky to be there when summer starts and meadows were filled with a variety of flowers, blooming right after the winter. Our guide even showed us a herd of mountain goats at the foot of Vihren. The program is designed in the best possible way. We had a day off with less activities, which was meant to provide more time for relax between the hikes in Rila and Pirin. And we made use of it by visiting one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country - the UNESCO heritage listed Rila Monastery. Overall great experience and highly recommended tour!”
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience

“I just returned from a 2 week tour of the Balkans and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Communication leading up to the tour was exceptional. Our itinerary was fast paced and comprehensive and the sights were spectacular. Accommodations were clean and amenities sufficient for the price paid for the tour. The tour leader, bus driver and the local guides were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this travel operator, especially for off the beaten path destinations.”
Truly stunning places

“The places we explored were truly stunning, with Bozhentsi and Arbannasi standing out. The overall accommodation met our expectations, only 1-2 hotels left something to be desired. The bikes, although not brand new, were all in good condition. Our guide demonstrated extensive knowledge of bike maintenance, instilling confidence in us with his education and experience in the field—crucial aspects for a trip of this nature. Additionally, he excelled as a guide, keeping us well-informed and ensuring the well-being of everyone in the group”

Bulgaria - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

A trip to this Balkan nation offers attractions as diverse as its geography. With mountains and rivers calling out to the hiker and sunny beaches along the Black Sea luring the sun-bathers to its shores, this country truly offers something for everyone who is looking for an amazing vacation. Bulgaria’s cultural history is as varied as its attractions, with a history that includes the Greek, Ottoman, Slavic, and Persian peoples it is no wonder that a colorful history has produced such a fun-loving culture where the nightlife is as vibrant as any you could ask for along these Black Sea shores.

Tour Highlights

  • Sunny Beach is the place to be, with over 130 restaurants, and 800 hotels boasting of 300,000 rooms, as well as some of the most beautiful beaches, and beach goers, along the Black Sea coast.
  • Visit during the first week of June and take part in the Rose Festival, watch the rose parade, and maybe even meet the Rose Queen herself.
  • Want to see a cathedral that can accommodate 10,000 people at a time? Visit the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia!
  • Smaller in size, but rich in history, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church features frescos that date to the 10th century for your consideration.
  • Take a hike to see the Seven Rila Lakes in the Northwestern Rila Mountains. Visit in July or August for the most favorable weather conditions.
  • For winter fun, try skiing or snowboarding in Bansko, just outside of Sofia. With ski season running from December to March there is plenty of time to schedule a vacation.

Travel Tips

  • For a change of pace, try taking a bike tour of Sofia, it is an active way to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
  • Public transportation is substandard, private busses, or taxis are a safer bet to get you where you need to be, when you need to be there.
  • Trains are available to get you from village to village along the Black Sea coast, but be prepared for delays.
  • Though slow, the trains can be comfortable. For a longer trip, try a sleeper car and travel in true comfort along the coast.
