Our ride from Colombia’s capital city, Bogota to Bucaramanga in Santander province is a beautiful Andean journey carefully designed to discover some of the very best cycling in Colombia, surprising and captivating on many levels.
Following a mix of gravel roads, dirt-trails and paved backroads, our trip is a beautiful Andean journey carefully designed to discover the very best cycling in Colombia, as well as to explore a fascinating part of Colombia. We will ride across the same mountain paths the Spanish conquistadors first walked as they made their way down from the Caribbean into the land of the Incas.
We stay in picturesque colonial towns with whitewashed churches and well-preserved architecture dating back centuries and have enough time off-the-bikes to get appreciate the people, history and culture of Colombia. Cycling takes us away from the crowds and we will discover trails and roads to take us through the history of Colombian independence, passing battlefield grounds and mountain hideouts. We will stop often at small villages to meet local people to taste the excellent local cuisine, sample Colombia’s world-famous coffee and enjoy Colombian wine from the local vineyards.
Starting in the cooler climes of Bogota at 2.615 meters we ride through Boyaca State, known as Colombia’s magnificent cycling heartland and pedal on the very same mountains as Nairo Quintana and Egan Bernal, Colombia's greatest cyclists, enjoying some of their favourite climbs and training roads. We then descend into the more tropical valleys and hilltop towns of Santander Province where we will end our journey with a magnificent cable car ride through the awe-inspiring Chicamocha Canyon. Along the way, we ride a mix of roads, gravel roads and exhilarating off-road trails. The riding is never technically difficult but always interesting, fun and sometimes challenging. We provide mountain bikes and welcome gravel bike riders so we can get away from the main roads and traffic to discover the many mountain trails that connect Colombia’s rural villages and really get a feel for the incredible, beautiful and fascinating country of Colombia.
