“Optional tours need to be reviewed most were a waste of time. Hotels need to be closer to the centre of the city or town so when free time came it was wasted getting to and from the centre of town. Paid too much for before tour accommodation booked through trafalgar could have got it cheaper through booking.com. Also hotel offered shuttle service to and from the airport which trafalgar didn't tell us about so we organised a private pickup.”

“The highlight for me was seeing the Keukenhof gardens and the windmills in The Netherlands. I also enjoyed the Be My Guest dinner, and would have appreciated seeing more of the farm. Seeing Hitler's Atlantic Wall was also an amazing experience as I had no idea it existed. Each day was a great experience, so it is hard to select favorites.”

“We took all of the excursions offered and enjoyed them all.
The Be My Guest dinner at the DE Stamper in Belgium was superb. The owners were more than gracious, the food and drink were fantastic and we loved their dog! It was a great evening.
All of the local guides were excellent.”

“Overall an enjoyable trip. The only let down are the locations of hotel in Amsterdam and Luxembourg. At both cities the hotel locations are far from city center. The Trafalgar brochure promised city center location for hotels.”

“Too many days/too much time spent in Amsterdam/Brussels and not enough in Antwerp and Bruges. If the directory states we could go to Kinderdike windmills, Anne Frank house, etc, then let us go. Don't get our hopes up and then remove the optional excursions. We didn't know what we were doing when as the director didn't follow the Trafalgar itinerary...and the excursions weren't labeled as to when they were available so we could figure out if this were the trip/tour we actually wanted. Bad communication all the way around from start to finish for this tour.”

“Overall it was enjoyable & informative. The weather was a drawback. We were disappointed at not going to the Ann Frank house. The farm house was excellent. There were many other highlights.”

Belgium - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Belgium is a hub of European culture and is a must-visit for any Euro-trip. The country is bordered by France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, making it the perfect destination for country-hopping. Paris can be reached by train in just 90 minutes, while Amsterdam is just under two hours away. Belgium’s capital city, Brussels, is home to the European Parliament and French, Dutch and German are all widely spoken within the country.

A tour in Belgium cannot be completed without waffles, chocolate and beer. The country is also known for its frites (french fries), often sold by street vendors in a paper cone with a side of mayonnaise. Beyond great eats, Belgium is a hotspot for ornate architecture and medieval towns.

Tour Highlights

  • Wander the fairytale streets of Bruges
  • Buy some cuberdons (cone-shaped Belgian sweets) from a stall in Ghent
  • Visit the whole continent without leaving Brussels at Mini-Europe
  • Drink one of Delirium Café’s 3000 beers
  • See the carpet of begonia flowers in front of the Grand Place
  • Explore the painted walls of Brussels’ Comic Strip Route

Travel Tips

  • Flying to Brussels on your upcoming holiday? Double check the name of your arrival airport. While Brussels Airport is near the capital city, Brussels-Charleroi Airport is a 20-minute bus ride and additional one-hour train ride away.
  • You’ll likely hear lots of French spoken within Brussels, but Dutch (Flemish) is most widely spoken outside the capital city. Most Belgians can also converse in English.
  • Fancy a night on the town? There’s no such thing as a mandated ‘last call’ in Belgium, so bars often remain open until the atmosphere dies down.
  • Don’t worry about feeling out of place. Tourists are very welcome in Belgium, and every one out of three inhabitants is a foreigner.
  • Belgian public transportation is great and travelling by train is fast and inexpensive. Brussels is one of the world’s most traffic congested cities, so opt for the metro rather than renting a car or taking the bus.
