- Visit charming fishermen's villages
- Sail around the marine reserve of the Medes Islands
- Go back in time visiting medieval town of Pals and the old site of Empuries
Its natural wealth and beauty is apparent in several territories and protected areas such us Cap de Creus, the Emporda marshes and the Marine Reserve Medes islands. The fame of Costa Brava is also due to its villages. Small fishing towns with whitewashed walls and narrow winding streets still retain the charm of a by-gone era.
This tour leaves Placa Catalunya, Barcelona, every Tuesday and Friday at 8:30 am. However, we recommend that you arrive at the starting point about 15 minutes earlier. From Placa Catalunya, we take the motorway to reach Lloret de Mar (the journey takes one hour and 15 minutes).
Take the motorway and head for Calella de Palafrugell, a small fishing village where you will reach at around 10:15 am. This village still retains today the traditional appearance of the past and is beautiful, both in termas of architecture and landscape. You have free time to explore the village, enjoy the scenery and take great photographs.
Head for the neighbouring town of Llafranc via Camino de Ronda at around 11:00 am. This hike takes around 30 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Llafranc is a small, elegant and captivating seaside town with all the delightfulness of the towns on this coast.
At about 12:00 in the noon we will travel to Pals, a town located inland and on the top of a hill. The village is built entirely in a medieval site. At the top, there is a cylindrical tower from the 12th century, which is visible from afar. It has an excellent terrace that offers stunning views of the Costa Brava and surroundings. Take time to appreciate the round arches, facades with pointed windows arches and stone balconies, all perfectly restored, as you walk down the cobbled streets.
Our next destination is l’Estartit, a seaside village with an important port famous all over the world as being an important diving centre because the Medes archipelago lies only one kilometre off the coast. The Medes Islands are of great interest due to a wide variety of flora and fauna that inhabit in the area. It is also a special protected area of importance in the Mediterranean.
You have free time for lunch before boarding a Nautilus boat at 03:00 pm. The one hour and 30 minute trip will take you to the outer islands and continue to the stunning cliffs of Sierra de Montgrí only accessible by boat.
Our last stop is the extensive Greek and Roman ruins of Empuries, where we will reach at around 17:00 pm. Enjoy a guided tour around the site, the only such place in Spain where both Greek and Roman cities were founded in the past.
The highlights of the Greek section are the remains of city walls, an acropolis, a market square and numerous buildings. The Roman section is home to a mosaic floor in excellent condition, a forum, remains of an amphitheater, several statues and vestiges of street frameworks.
We leave for Barcelona at 6:00 pm and arrive at Plaza Catalunya at around 8.00 pm.
