Seven days of cycling and dining magic
5 - Excellent
“An unexpectedly good cycling trip - on 30 gear bikes which which were very well maintained (bought in Austria) - and suitable for the 'moderate undulations' (is there such a thing) and some lengthy steep climbs on the hills of Albania - although there were more descents rather than ascents. An excellent good humoured group, lead by several well informed local professionals, who showed their country off at its best - the villages, the topography and its food and drink - leaving you wanting to see and do more!”
Cycle Romania
5 - Excellent
“Dont hesitate to visit Romania and explore Transylvania by bicycle. At the moment there is little tourism there and Transylvania remains bucolic, tranquil and unspoilt, as it has done for centuries. I was impressed by the abundance of growth everywhere, the wild flowers by the roadside, nesting storks on village roofs and soaring eagles overhead, gypsies in traditional dress, the horses and carts and well cared for domestic animals. It really is like something out of Lark Rise to Candleford truly idyllic farming country out of a picture book, where here and there time appears to have stood still. Go before it changes, and visit the ancient, medieval citadels and Saxon Lutheran fortified churches. And cycling is a good way to meet Romanians, eat their delicious home-cooked food and see behind the doors of the brightly painted cottages, which front each villages main street.”
Northern Albania and Macedonia August 2016
5 - Excellent
“After riding the southern Albania trip last year I had to go for this one. It was a fantastic trip over the mountains with beautiful views every day, the lakes, the mountains, the valleys. It was a bit tough going at times but it was worth the effort. The scenery was quite different to the southern trip. I'm glad I did both. Macedonia was different again. Lots of small farms with their goods on display by the roadside. Ohrid, UNESCO town was very picturesque overlooking lake Ohrid.”
