An active journey through beautiful Madagascar by bike and on foot. Madagascar is an island of unparalleled landscapes vastly different from mainland Africa, and this multi-activity tour consisting of 519 km of riding and up to 50 km of hiking offers an exciting combination of terrain for the adventurous cyclist and hiker to tackle. Starting from the capital of Antananarivo, we ride the wilds of Madagascar across wide-open savannah, punctuated by otherworldly rock formations. With a variety of road conditions from tarmac and hard-packed dirt roads to off-road trails, we will experience steep uphill climbs past terraced rice paddies and vast downhill descents across the highlands. Mingle with the friendly Malagasy people to experience their culture and how they live off the land, and search for lemurs in the lush tropical rainforest of Ranomafana. Reward your efforts and refresh your hard-working muscles in the natural pools and waterfalls we pause at to rest. This trip is recommended for confident and physically fit riders looking for a challenging experience with a variety of off-road activities.

“Our bike trip through Vietnam and Cambodia was amazing, wonderful, and intense on every dimension -- sensory, culturally, mentally, physically. I truly felt that I was in another world, forcing me to re-think so many preconceptions and assumptions in the face of the realities before me. And being on a bike allowed us to experience the rural, back country where typical tours never go; a unique and valuable adventure.”

“We booked as a group of 6 friends who made another 6 good friends in the others that made up our group of 12, what fun we had, cycling through the villages of Vietnam and Cambodia, saying hello to the locals on the way who would run out of their houses to wave as we cycled through, some asking for us to take photos of them and the look on their faces when they saw their pictures was priceless. Such friendly people in lovely countries, couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Our guides in both countries were fantastic, with a great knowledge of their own country including the local history. Accommodation throughout the trip was fantastic, varying from basic hotels to more classy hotels to the fantastic homestay with an outside shower! Would thoroughly recommend this trip but make sure you Practise your cycling and fitness levels before you leave as we found it hard going in the heat. Great time had by all, thanks World Expeditions.”
