  • Perfect your cross-country skate skiing technique in the Tyrol
The Austrian Tyrol Skate Week tour starts and ends in Achenkirch. The Austrian Tyrol Skate Week is a Winter Adventures tour that takes 8 days taking you through Achenkirch, Austria and other destinations in Austria.

With over 200 km of slopes and separate tracks for classic cross-country skiers and skaters, the Achensee region is considered one of Austria's top and best equipped ski centres. We have hand-picked the picturesque town of Achenkirch, located right by northern banks of the biggest lake in Tyrol, for this week of skating. With a wonderful variety of loipen and stunning views of the lake and mountains, there is no better place to come learn to skate or improve your technique. Tuition is is provided by Eric Woolley, a Snowsport England Coach/Tutor, who has been leading our holidays for many years. We stay in the lovely Hotel Fischerwirt, where the Family Kirchberger will offer a warm welcome and some deliciously hearty Tyrolean food.
Day 1 Start Achenkirch

Start Achenkirch.

Day 2 Five days of cross-country skiing and one free day. Each day our leader chooses routes according to the grade and snow conditions.

Morning coaching sessions allow an opportunity to learn or refresh skills and the afternoons can be spent exploring the area. Thanks to our central base, we can enjoy many varied circuits in the Achenkirch and Pertisau areas.
The Achenkirch loipe is accessible directly opposite the hotel, so we will often start our day there. Alternatively we may take a bus to head further in the valley towards the German border or even to Pertisau, where another extensive network of loipen is available. In total we have 117km of skate tracks to choose from!

Day 3 Second day of tuition and guided skiing

Now that our legs have loosened up, we carry on with more cross-country skiing and tuition. See details of possible routes in Day 2.

Day 4 Tuition and guided skiing

Morning coaching sessions allow an opportunity to learn or refresh skills and the afternoons can be spent exploring the area. Thanks to our central base, we can enjoy many varied circuits in the Achenkirch and Pertisau areas.

Day 5 Free day.

Usually the free day to relax, ski independently or visit one of the nearby Tyrolean towns, such as Innsbruck, Mayerhofen or Kufstein.

Day 6 Two further days of guided skiing.

We carry on with more guided skiing. See details of possible routes in Day 2.

Day 7 Guided skiing.

If appropriate, we will incorporate some longer tours on more challenging terrain, where we can really perfect our technique.

Tyrol Skate Week
5 - Excellent
“Achenkirch is an excellent location with well prepared tracks across the road from the hotel and excellent bus connections to other locations in the valley. We were very lucky to have superb snow conditions. The hotel is warm, comfortable and very friendly. Food is excellent and good vegetarian options. The skiing is a mixture of flat, fast areas for training, small climbs in woods, and bigger climbs at Pertisau. Ski hire equipment is of a good quality and hired locally, so you can change kit as needed.”

“A very enjoyable holiday, good snow and good ski-ing
The Hotel Fischerwirt was very comfortable and the food was very good.”

4 - Very Good
“Good snow, great hotel and food, good skiing area and a fantastic leader in Eric but misleading grading. Having done the beginners skating course and some roller skiing, I didn't expect the intermediate course to be mainly people who had skied at least one and in most cases several ski marathons of up to 50km. It also didn’t help that I wasn't fit enough. I did improve thanks to Eric but I struggled! I understand it was an exceptionally tough group so some of the other dates may have been better for less experienced intermediates like me but I guess you just take your luck.”

“Just returned from one of my best skiing holidays ever and i have been skiing for over 45 years. Can't get the memories out of my mind . Eric Woolley was a great leader and has a great sense of humour.”
